BREATHING AND EDUCATION

 

There is an important connection between breathing and education. It is possible to achieve many things in the pedagogic area in school if correct breathing is accepted. The Master says this:

 

Without breathing we cannot give an education to children because we cannot make them think correctly and feel correctly. If children do breathing exercises in the school under the direction of their teacher, first of all they will be healthy, resisting diseases, and in addition it will prepare them for correct thinking and feeling, fortify their will and their memory, and help the blossoming of their virtues and talents.

 

In the future schools will accept breathing exercises, which will have broader application not only as a separate subject, but in connection with gymnastic exercises and singing. Breathing will be applied in the school collectively and individually. I will give several examples: If a student is indifferent and lazy, breathing, as well as other methods, could be applied which will activate his will and his working attitudes. If another student is melancholic and suspicious, it is possible to apply different kinds of pedagogic methods, but he should also do some deep breathing. If a student does not have the ability to concentrate or has a weak memory, it could help him to do special breathing methods.

 

In the schools Paneurhythmy and breathing exercises should be accepted. If the students all did Paneurhythmy and breathing exercises in the morning, they would begin their school work fresh, with bright minds, noble hearts and lively feeling. In this way we would educate another kind of young people, healthy, vital and with great development of creative abilities. It would also awaken the divine side of their human nature. This is the way to become the nation's physically healthy and spiritually creative.

 

An example: A person was suffering from anemia. He was so thin and weak, he had no strength, was very pale and had a listless look. He was incapable of mastering his own thinking. When he would try to say a few words he couldn't remember them. He even began to lose consciousness. His red blood cells diminished to one-tenth of the normal quantity. But he began to do breathing exercises morning, noon and evening, ten times each and breathing through both nostrils. The retaining of the air began at thirty seconds and gradually increased to two minutes. Ordinarily when breathing is applied for curing it is accompanied with other healing methods as well. This person used this method. First, every morning he walked in nature before dawn. Second, he did the Paneurhythmy exercises which have a deep curing and fortifying influence over the organism. Third, he dipped his legs into hot water every evening before going to bed. Fourth, he spent the summer season in very high mountains since they are the accumulators of very great energy and afford an abundance of ultraviolet rays which have very short waves which can penetrate deeply into the organism. He applied the methods outlined above and after twenty days he felt himself healthy. However, he continued to apply these methods.
